PORTSMOUTH – Annie Louise Clayton, 99, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, July 25, 2010.
Louise was born in Portsmouth, the daughter of the late John Thompson Clayton and Annie Parker Tarkington Clayton. Louise was a lifetime member of Broad St. United Methodist Church, past state president of Delta Kappa Gamma, a member of the Portsmouth Music Club, past president of the Women’s Society and United Women’s Club, Chesapeake Retired Teacher’s Association, and past president and former board member of Roper House. She also was a certified teacher, social worker, and world traveler.
Louise was predeceased by her parents; a sister, Helen C. Williamson; and her brothers, Fred J. Graham W. and John Talton Clayton. Ms. Clayton is survived by her nieces and nephews, Helen Paige Wimmer, Martha Ann Kibler, Lu Ann Burford, Curtis Clayton, and Robert Clayton.
A memorial service to celebrate Louise’s life will be held Sunday, Aug. 1, at 2 p.m. at Lake Prince Woods in the Portsmouth Room, 100 Anna Goode Way, Suffolk, VA 23434, with Chaplain Woodie Rae officiating. Interment will be private in Olive Branch Cemetery
