If you share a similar subject you will be more likely to get traffic as your site will be seen as a recommendation by the site they are on.

Another benefit to linking in this way is that your site will increase its chances of a higher ranking with the search engines. This, in turn, can help with eventually getting traffic from the search engines in addition to that from the linking site.

Children’s author says it takes a lot to get story ‘just right’,

0 Comments | Charleston Daily Mail, May 12, 2006 | by JESSICA M. KARMASEK

DAILY MAIL STAFF

Writing isn’t easy, not even for award-winning children’s author Anna Egan Smucker.

Smucker, the author of such books as “No Stars Nights,” “A History of West Virginia,” “Outside the Window” and her newest book “To Keep the South Manitou Light,” says she still encounters the occasional writer’s block.

If it’s not writer’s block, it’s continuous rewriting and revising. Smucker says it takes many handwritten drafts before a story is “just right.”

“You have to realize you’re not going to get the words right the first time,” she said. “I don’t think people realize when they read a book or news article that it’s hard. They think writing is easy for everyone, especially writers. But it’s a constant effort. We’re always revising.”

Smucker, a Weirton native and Bridgeport resident, is this year’s keynote speaker for the 22nd annual West Virginia Young Writers Day celebration, held at the University of Charleston today.

Smucker advises young writers to write and read – a lot.

“Read everything they can get their hands on,” she said.

But writing, she says, isn’t just putting something on paper. Smucker encourages students to use all five senses.

“Details. Specific, concrete details are everything,” she said.

A good writer, Smucker says, asks “what if?” An overactive imagination doesn’t hurt, either.

For example, her newest book, “To Keep the South Manitou Light,” is set on an island in Lake Michigan, where she and her family camped regularly when she was a child. It was on this island that Smucker spotted a lighthouse.

“I just asked myself what if I was the one who had to climb that shaky ladder in the cold winter and keep the light on,” she said.

Students from across the state were to be recognized for their writing at today’s awards presentation, as well as participate in workshops conducted by professional writers.

This year’s workshop presenters include Colleen Anderson, Sarah Sullivan, Cheryl Ware and Smucker.

Anderson is a freelance writer, performer and owner of Mother Wit, a creative studio in Charleston

Troubled teen boy denied bail after robbery

0 Comments | Winnipeg Free Press, Dec 8, 2009 | by McIntyre, Mike

THE 17-year-old was clearly troubled as he sat in the police interview room.

“Would you like to speak to a lawyer?” an officer asked.

“I’d rather speak with Satan,” the teen replied.

Hours earlier, police had arrested the boy as he wandered down Corydon Avenue, clutching a knife in one hand and wearing a stolen silver ring on his other.

As muggings go, this one was anything but typical.

The victim had been walking down the street on Nov. 27, just before 3 a.m., when the young stranger approached him waving the weapon and demanding his jewelry.

The victim handed it over, fearing the consequences if he didn’t. But concern about his own health was quickly erased when the armed robber took the knife and placed it against his own throat.

“I’ve got nothing to live for,” he told his victim before fleeing into the night

No matter who designed it, it works and one of the biggest problems with RFID in the passive type tags was range. Having a system, which can read them from afar or thru containers means additional security can be achieved in the transportation industry. This means we can use them in cargo containers, trucks and shipping containers. Imagine a truck driving down the freeway and the SmartHighway reads what is inside. Not just what is inside, but every single package in every box, on every pallet; think of the possibilities?

We can use this knowledge to show where everything is at all times in our massive transportation and distribution network, which serves 300 million people.

So, what is our point?
The other morning we were listening to a talking head on TV. His suggestion
was that since we never know what is going to happen we should simply buy
stocks now and hold on to them for 5 years or so. Really.

The fact is this very same talking head was on this very same TV show last
year saying the same thing. His picks from that time are down about 36%. But his theory is that this is nothing to worry about, just hang in there
and you will be rewarded. It’s been this kind of misguided information that
lost US stock holders over 5 trillion dollars in two years. Buy and
hold does not work in a bear market folks, it simply crushes you.The only
way to make the market pay for you is to pay attention to the trends and
try and snatch a piece from the middle of a move.

Every member you befriend and help will help your cause by recruiting other disciples who ?sell? your teachings of healthy living.

8. Love thy Children

? that you have recruited to members of your club. It is not enough to believe they will find their own way and stay a dedicated disciple. Thou shouldst nurture new children who are infants to healthy living, with regular contact, education, motivation and friendship so that they may grow to be strong happy members.

9. Thou shalt not lie

– promising a service or results to a potential member that you can not deliver or they can not realistically achieve is the same as lying.

Increasing the value of homes for sale can increase the asking price. Though realtors suggest improvements that can be made to increase home values, there are many things that can be done by owners in advance of listing their California homes for sale.

Many owners of homes for sale make the mistake of doing costly but unnecessary upgrades, making the wrong improvements, or trying to do too much. Costly upgrade costs are seldom recouped, and many types of improvements add no additional value to the homes.

Trying to do too many improvements is the biggest mistake made by owners of homes for sale. The objective is to do a few strategic and important projects really well with quality materials and workmanship. Doing many projects using mediocre materials, nonprofessional labor, and/or doing them only halfway can, in the end, decrease the value of the homes for sale.

Let?s look at some improvements that will add value to homes for sale:

For those who are suited to this job, there are some good opportunities. But isn’t it just a case of listening to the voice of a health care professional and typing up exactly what’s been said? While that’s the basic idea behind the medical transcriptionists’ job, there are some reasons that health care professionals and facilities want to hire those trained for the job.

The terminology is one of the biggest reasons training is so vital. While you don’t have to be able to name the bones in the leg, you do need to learn to recognize words like “tibia.” Terminology is one of the reasons medical transcriptionists need training, and one of the points that will be taught and practiced during Medical Transcriptionist training.

But is there really a need to learn those things? After all, you can certainly stop the tape and look up any words that you don’t recognize. That constant starting and stopping are the difference between an experienced transcriptionist and someone who’s filling in.

A PATIENT has won Pounds 4,500 compensation after a dentist in Gloucester pulled out the wrong tooth.

After weeks of pain, 36-year-old John Baud hoped his extraction at the dentist would end the toothache.

But what he did not bank on was the dentist removing a perfectly healthy tooth next to the one which needed taking out.

He has now won the money to cover the cost of implants.

Coffee caravans backed by MP

0 Comments | Sunday Sun; Newcastle-upon-Tyne (UK), Sep 5, 2010 | by Anonymous

A CHARITY worker whose fundraising coffee shop faces the threat of closure has received support from his MP.

Pensioner Derek Hepple, from Seaton Sluice, in Northumberland, has raised thousands of pounds for a dog shelter.

The 68-year-old uses two old caravans to cater for the 200 customers who call in for a cuppa and a chat between 7.30am and 5pm every Sunday.

But a resident has complained to the council, claiming the trade is causing noise and parking problems. And Mr Hepple – who has raised nearly pounds 8,000 for the Safe Homes and Kindness (SHAK) charity in Bedlington – has been told by Northumberland County Council that he will have to apply for planning permission to change the use of his driveway to a business
